Swiss Re natural hazards expert Megan Linkin has assessed a historical hurricane event in the Northeast and found that, when recreated with today's property conditions, it would “produce insured damages in the tens of billions.”
The Swiss Re report looked at an 1821 hurricane and concluded that, if it occurred today, it would “cause 50 percent more damage than [Superstorm] Sandy and potentially cause more than $100 billion in property losses stemming from storm surge and wind damage.”
