Nelson Levine de Luca & Hamilton, LLC, has changed its name to Nelson Brown Hamilton & Krekstein LLC (Nelson Brown & Co.).
In addition, the firm reported that it has parted ways with its Pennsylvania-based subrogation unit as well as several lawyers in southern New Jersey.
“We have been on a clear path of focusing the firm's resources on issues that are at the heart of the insurance industry's needs,” said Mike Nelson, chairman of the firm. “We've had an ongoing series of discussions about the level of commitment and investment that vision demands. Strategy is about making these kinds of decisive choices and we've empowered Kevin Toth to put his energy and rigor behind them.”
“I have valued working with the talented attorneys in our subrogation practice,” said firm-wide managing partner and now name partner David Brown. “However, the changes we are making will enable us to invest more heavily in the practice areas in great demand by the global insurance market: national coverage, reinsurance, complex litigation, bad faith, institutional business practices, regulatory, and London, Bermuda, and international markets.”
“As insurance becomes more global, there has been increasing demand for the kind of sophisticated counsel we provide in international regulatory and transactional hotbeds like London, New York, and Washington, D.C.,” said Mr. Toth, the new executive vice president, chief operations, and strategic officer of the firm. “We plan to grow our presence in all of our locations, but especially in these venues. Bermuda continues to have enormous impact on global insurance markets, and we are actively exploring opening a Bermuda office in 2015.”
“The firm has had a longstanding vision, one that I have been a part of for more than a decade,” said firm shareholder Bill Krekstein. “When the insurance industry needs help protecting its business practices and advancing its interests, our firm and its professionals have been at the forefront.”
“New emerging risks – from autonomous vehicles and cyber to fracking and electronic transactions – make it clear that the insurance market's demand for a law firm that is connected to the industry, knows the nuances of the business and can anticipate its needs grows greater every day,” said shareholder Michael Hamilton, who leads the firm's national coverage practice. “We are well positioned to deliver even more for our clients.”
