The Self-Insurance Institute of America, Inc. (“SIIA”), a national trade association that represents the business interests of companies involved in the self-insurance/alternative risk transfer marketplace, has named Adam Brackemyre director of state government relations, a newly-created position.

In this role, Mr. Brackemyre will be responsible for coordinating the association's lobbying activities at the state level and will represent SIIA's interests at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, the National Council of Insurance Legislator, and other organizations. He will be based in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Brackemyre's professional background includes four years with the National Association of Health Underwriters, where his responsibilities included both federal and state government relations. He also has held government relations positions with the Council for Affordable Health Insurance, the American Academy of Physicians Assistants, and the Coalition Against Guaranteed Issue.

“During 2013, SIIA made the investment to expand and upgrade its team of federal lobbyists and now we are very pleased that to be able to deploy additional capabilities at the state level,” said SIIA President and Chief Executive Officer Mike Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson noted that state issues on SIIA's radar screen include stop-loss insurance regulation, self-insured group workers' compensation fund regulation, and potential assessments on self-insured employers and/or third party administrators to support public health care exchanges.
