The best recreation cities have a wide range of leisure activities, both indoor and outdoor, according to a report by WalletHub.

The activities require varying levels of exercise and contribute to a city’s overall well-being and economy, the data showed, with neighborhood parks being one of the most beneficial types of recreation a city can offer.

At the same time, having a park within 500 to 600 feet of a property can have a significant impact on its value, according to WalletHub, while helping people stay fit, saving them nearly $1,900 in healthcare costs per year and reducing the overall costs of air pollution by $3.8 billion per year.

“Recreation is an important factor to consider when moving to a new city,” said WalletHub Analyst, Chip Lupo.

“Without adequate space for activities you enjoy, your mental health will suffer,” he added. “In addition, a lack of green spaces or indoor places to exercise can make it hard to stay fit and take care of your physical health. The best cities for recreation have a wide variety of indoor and outdoor activities that can help people of all ages stay entertained and active.”

Meanwhile, the global travel insurance market size was estimated at $23.51 billion in 2024 and is predicted to increase from $27.14 billion in 2025 to approximately $98.74 billion by 2034, expanding at a CAGR of 15.43% from 2025 to 2034, according to Precedence Research.
