It was a 'home run' for Arbella Insurance Group and the Arbella Insurance Foundation this week, as the organizations were awarded with the 2019 Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award at the 18th annual WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon at Fenway Park on August 20.
The award recognizes individuals or organizations that demonstrate a long-standing commitment to the mission of Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, a charity that raises funds for adult and pediatric cancer care and research at the institute.
"Each year, our Arbella team is proud to be a part of the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon, and this year we are even more proud and humbled to be recognized by Dana-Farber with the Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund Award," John Donohue, chairman, president and CEO of the Arbella Insurance Group and chairman of the Arbella Insurance Foundation, said in a news release. "For more than a decade, we have committed our support to the Jimmy Fund's fight against cancer in children and adults at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We are grateful to WEEI, NESN, the Red Sox and the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber, for the important work they do to further cancer research and care right here in our communities."
In addition, the Arbella Insurance Foundation was the presenting sponsor of the telethon for the 12th consecutive year and will make a gift of $100,000 to the Jimmy Fund, in addition to supporting other initiatives including:
- Donating $50 for each strike out thrown by a Red Sox pitcher during the season for the "Let's Strike Out Cancer" campaign.
- Donating $5 to the Jimmy Fund for every "like" Arbella's Jimmy Fund Facebook posts receive, up to $5,000.
- Matching every gift made by an Arbella employee and any of its independent agents throughout New England, up to $500.
Throughout the years, the Arbella Insurance Foundation has contributed almost $1 million to Dana-Farber as part of the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon.
