The most popular U.S. city for renting a home as summer 2023 transitioned to fall is known for its quaint Colonial monuments, picturesque views of the Potomac River and close proximity to the nation's capital — with all its government, nonprofit and cultural institutions.

In general, the most popular places to rent in the U.S. tend to have abundant rentals available along with a copacetic mix of amenities, job opportunities and schools. They also tend to be medium-sized to smaller municipalities, which some argue are more friendly and accessible, but often have easy access to the country's major metropolitan areas.
