Street racing is among the most severe violations a driver can commit, according to Insurify.com, which noted racing can count for more than twice as many points against a driving record as a minor speeding citation in most states.

Additionally, getting a citation for street racing can cause an auto insurance premium to increase by as much as 73%, on average. Speeding can cause auto insurance rates to increase an average of 23%, according to The Zebra.

Nationally, 3.48 per 100,000 drivers have a citation for street racing, Insurify reported. which noted penalties range widely by state, ranging from $20 to as much as $2,500 and jail time.
