Most individuals and businesses carry at least one form of liability coverage — think personal injury liability and commercial general liability. These common coverages may seem like they are their own types of insurance, but they are actually two of many sub-types of "other liability" insurance.

According to the Uniform Property & Casualty Product Coding Matrix provided by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), "other liability" insurance can include D&O coverage, environmental pollution liability, liquor liability, employment practices liability and many others. Insurance for daycare centers, veterinarians, and elevators and escalators also are considered "other liability" policies.

In its 2020 Property/Casualty Market Share report, the NAIC identifies the leading writers of "other liability" insurance in 2020 based on cumulative market data reported on insurers' annual financial statements to the NAIC as of March 29, 2021, for business conducted in the U.S. states and territories and Canada.
