The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) recently released its annual motorcycle theft report that illuminates why bikers must remain vigilant to protect their two-wheeled possessions despite declining thefts across the U.S.

According to the report, motorcycle thefts have decreased by 12% since 2016. In total, 40,380 motorcycle thefts across 478 different makes were reported in 2019 — the earliest data available — down from 41,674 in 2018. Another good news revealed in the report is the rate of recovery: 18,857 motorcycles that were reported stolen in 2019 have been recovered at a recovery rate of 46%
