The price of home insurance is generally not something house hunters consider as they strategize a fresh start in a new place. But they probably should, especially when the buyers in question are looking for a new home where they can curb expenses, perhaps because they're downsizing or retiring.

The average home insurance premium in the United States in 2020 is $2,305, according to insurance.com, a web site designed to educate consumers about their coverage needs and then refer those prospects to appropriate insurance carriers. The site recently published an article that not only revealed the national average for homeowners' insurance premiums but also illustrated the vast discrepancy between the most and least expensive premiums.
