Liberty Mutual's national insurance middle-market operationannounced three enhancements to better serve middle-marketbusinesses and the insurance brokers and agents who support them.
|First, it embedded an umbrella underwriting team within itsmiddle-market operation. This will make it easier and faster toprovide whole-account solutions for middle-market brokers andbuyers. Lisa Gentile, a former vice president of excess casualty atTravelers, leads the midsize umbrella underwriting team.
|Second, Marcus Cooper joined Liberty Mutual and leads a newMidwest division that was created in an effort to better serve areamiddle-market buyers and brokers. Cooper joined from Zurich, wherehe ran the company's country-wide middle-market operation.
|Third, Liberty Mutual appointed John Schwirtz to lead theNortheast division. Schwirtz joined Liberty Mutual 10 years ago andhas held a number of important positions, most recently leading ateam of energy underwriters through the company's expansion intothe Houston market and the utility sector.
|The three enhancements highlight a trend among large carriersgoing after the middle market. In December 2019, Chubb announced two appointments toits North America commercial insurance segment, the company'sretail commercial property & casualty insurance division thatserves middle market and small businesses.

"These strategic investments will make us easier to dobusiness with and strengthen the value we provide to our brokersand buyers."
