RIMS and American International GroupInc. announced Glen Frederick and P.Richard Hackenburg as the 2017 inductees tothe Risk Management Hall of Fame (RMHF). Bothhonorees were officially inducted at RIMS 2017 Annual Conference & Exhibition inPhiladelphia.

RMHF is a joint venture of the RIMS and AIG, and wascreated to preserve the history and tradition of the profession.Founded in 2011, nominees are considered from around the globe andinductees are selected by the RMHF Selection Committee.

|

“The risk management profession continues to make significantstrides and has established itself as a must-have business functionfor countless organizations around the world,” said RIMS CEO MaryRoth. "It is an honor to join AIG in inducting these riskmanagement stalwarts into the Risk Management Hall of Fame.”

The RMHF serves as a means to maintain the history of the fieldof risk management and recognizes risk practitioners who have madesignificant contributions to advancing the discipline.

Glen Frederick’s career in risk management spanned for nearly 30years. As a member of a senior management team within thegovernment of British Columbia, Glen helped to establish abenchmark for risk management programs among Canadian provinces. Inaddition to the traditional risk management activities, Glenwas responsible for launching an enterprise risk managementstrategy that was implemented throughout the provincial publicsector.

Glen’s involvement with RIMS spanned 25 years. He served on theboards of the Manitoba, Canadian Capital Region, and BritishColumbia Chapters for almost all of his years as a RIMS member. Hewas very active with the RIMS Canada Council over a nine-year period,providing leadership in his role as chair, as well as otherexecutive positions.

Glen was a member of the RIMS nominating committee for oneterm and was selected to chair that committee the followingterm prior to being sidelined by illness. Sadly, Glen passedaway in 2013, just two years after winning the RIMS Harry andDorothy Goodell Award and RIMS Donald M. Stuart, theindustry’s highest honor and Canada’s highesthonor for risk professionals respectively. He is survivedby his wife Alice, his sons Steven and Scott and hisdaughter-in-law Carolyn.

P. Richard Hackenburg’s risk management career spannedmore than 45 years. He began as an insurance manager at Westinghouse ElectricCorporation in 1967 and would go to become the assistanttreasurer of Allegheny International Inc. in 1974.

After Alleghany International, he held numerous high-profilepositions throughout the industry that included president and CEOof Willis, Missouri, and COO of Willis Advanced Risk ManagementServices, among others. He retired on January 1, 2008.

|

He is a past member of the Associate in Risk Management (ARM)Advisory Committee of the Insurance Institutes of America where heserved in an editorial capacity for the ARM textbooks. Richard alsoshared his wealth of industry experience as an active member andofficer of numerous professional associations including theCaptiveInsurance Companies Association and the Society of CPCU,among numerous others.

He served in all officer positions for RIMS PittsburghChapter. On the RIMS global board of directors, he heldvarious officer positions from 1980 to 1986 and served as theSociety’s president from 1985 to 1986. He and his wife, Linda, havebeen married for almost 50 years and currently reside in Southport,North Carolina. They have three children and 10 grandchildren.
