In the U.S., parties, fireworks, champagne and watching the balldrop New York City's Times Square are all customary celebrations toring in the new year. With these customs, however, come risks.

According to Washington-based WalletHub, New Year's Eve is the number onenight of the year for celebratory gunfire. New Year's Eve is also“the most drunken night of the year,” with the average Americanblood alcohol content measuring 0.094 percent (the legal limit fordrivers over the age of 21 is 0.08 percent).

Big holiday for auto insurers

New Year's Eve is also a big holiday for auto insurers:According to WalletHub, New Year's Eve is the second most popularday of the year for auto theft, with 2,227 vehicles reportedstolen. WalletHub also reports that over 40,000 people are injuredin auto accidents and over 340 fatalities occur each New Year'sEve/Day.
