(Bloomberg) -- AllstateCorp., the largest publicly traded U.S. home and auto insurer,said that catastrophes in July probably cost $253 millionpretax.

The losses total $164 million after tax, the Northbrook,Illinois-based insurer said in a statement Thursday.
