After kicking off the festivities with Sunday evening's party inthe Gaslamp Quarter, the first full day of RIMS began with anetworking breakfast and general session in the San DiegoConvention Center. The general session opened with a bang as RhythmExtreme & Light Force showed their drumming and dancing skills.They even tried to get the audience up and moving by havingsections of the room stand up and shout out “R-I-M-S.”

Mary Roth, executive director of RIMS, and Julie Pemberton,president of the society welcomed attendees to the conference anddiscussed new additions to this year's conference.

New this year, the opening keynotes featured three TED-stylepresentations. Motivational speaker, entrepreneur and magician VinhGiang (below) used his magic skills demonstrate how easily you canbecome misled, then “pulled back the curtain” to show thatmisdirection in life and business can be overcome.

Scott Klososky (below), international speaker and author, spokeabout the exciting potential of 3D technology and provided examplesof the ways that the technology has already changed supply chainrisk. He also discussed trends in 3D printing and what might be onthe horizon that risk managers should be aware of.

Of special interest to claims professionals, Pamela Meyer,author of “Liespotting: Proven Techniques to Detect Deception,”used video examples to give the audience hints on body language and“tells” they could use to determine when someone isn’t beingcompletely truthful, especially those lies that can be subtle andcounterintuitive. Recognize the lie being told below?

Did you get your free headshot taken at the National Underwriterbooth? Attendees lined up to get their photo taken so they couldupdate their company profiles and LinkedIn pages.

Attendees who stopped by Liberty Mutual's booth were able toplay ping pong with members of the U.S. Olympic team.

Like last year's conference in New Orleans, Belfor had sandsculptors working on a unique sand sculpture at their booth.

Don't forget to stay hydrated! Once again, Old Republic had itswater bar available for attendees to stop by and grab some customfruit-infused water to drink while they wandered the showfloor.

This year's RIMS has a Game Lounge on the show floor whereattendees can play some of their favorite old school arcadegames.

Aon had a 3D printer at its booth printing plastic replicas ofits building.
