Getting a ticket can affect more than a driver's record — it canalso jack up their auto insurance premiums.

Insurers look at cars, drivers, and traffic violations whenbuilding auto policies. While accidents can hike up insurancepremiums for all drivers of a particular type of vehicle, ticketscan boost premiums for each individual driver, based on theirviolations.

While drivers — not their cars — earn their tickets,violation-prone drivers tend to drive similar vehicles.Insurance.com recently analyzed over 550,000 car insurance quotesto find out which cars get ticketed the most, and how ticketsaffect quotes for those vehicles. Insurance.com ranked the top 10most ticketed cars based on the percentage of the vehicles' driverswho report violations.

Insurance.com ran sample rates for a 25-year-old driver wholives in California for each of the top “ticket magnet” cars,looking at how rates changed after reporting a wide variety oftraffic violations. The site compared quotes on full coverage forcars newer than 2004 and got liability-only quotes for oldervehicles.
