St. John's University's School of Risk Management (SRM) willhonor XL Group CEO Mike McGavick as the “2014 Insurance Leader ofthe Year” at its 20th Annual Insurance Leader of theYear Award Dinner.

The event is to take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 6p.m. at the Marriot Marquis in New York City. Brian Duperreault,CEO of Hamilton Insurance Group, and Michael O'Halleran, executivechairmen of Aon Benfield and senior executive vice president of Aonplc will serve as honorary co-chairmen of the dinner. Proceeds from the event will support St. John's University's SRMprogram and students.

“The Insurance Leader of the Year accolade istraditionally awarded to an industry leader for distinguishedachievement over a long career, or for special achievement in theyear of recognition,” commented Mr. Duperreault, who serves asChairman of the SRM Board of Overseers.

“Mike has had an extraordinary career worthy of recognition inits own right. He is a leader of immense competence, and hehas most ably guided XL Group during his tenure there. Mikealso has a passion for public and philanthropic service that iswell known and esteemed – both within our industry and by largersegments of our society.”

The “Insurance Leader of the Year Award” has been presentedannually since 1995, and recognizes the contributions ofoutstanding individuals whose leadership in the global insurancefield and financial services industry sets them apart from theirpeers.

Last year's recipient was Robert H. Benmosche, former Presidentand Chief Executive Officer, American International Group Inc.

The St. John's University School of Risk Management was foundedin 1901 as the Insurance Society of New York, and has since evolvedinto The College of Insurance (TCI). In June of 2001, TCI mergedwith St. John's University, to becoming a school of the Peter J.Tobin College of Business.

SRM awards undergraduate, M.B.A. and M.S. degrees in theinsurance, risk management, and actuarial science disciplines. SRMalso provides education, training and consulting services to theindustry, government and regulators worldwide through its Centerfor Professional Education.
