David Glincher has been charged with theft, white collar crime,and fraud for allegedly filing car insurance claims on behalf ofconsumers who either were unaware of the filings or never receivedclaim payouts.

The Florida Department of Financial Services' Division ofInsurance Fraud, working with the Broward County State Attorney,said that the alleged scheme targeted over 270 victims.

“I am proud of our investigators' work to stop this fraudsterfrom taking advantage of any more Floridians,” said Florida ChiefFinancial Officer Jeff Atwater. “Insurance fraud drives up costsfor all Floridians, and we will not allow it to continue.”

Glincher allegedly sent letters to victims of traffic accidentsand encouraged them to file claims through his company, Auto LossClaims Consultants, LLC (ALCC). Regardless of whether the victimcompleted the claim form or discarded it, claims were still filedand funds were paid to ALCC by various insurance companies withoutthe knowledge of the victims, according to the charges.

Prosecutors said that the the magnitude of the alleged crimeallowed Glincher to be charged with aggravated white collar crime –a seldom used first degree felony. According to prosecutors,their review of bank records, along with victim interviews,determined the total theft to be nearly $300,000.

If convicted, Glincher faces up to 30 years in prison.
