Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder has named Ann Flood director of thestate Department of Insurance and Financial Services.

Flood (pictured) fills the post vacated by Kevin Clinton, whohas been appointed by Snyder as the state's treasurer.

The duo will start their new roles on Nov. 1.

Flood, an attorney, was Clinton's chief deputy director and wasresponsible for the department's Office of General Counsel, Officeof Insurance Evaluation, Office of Insurance Rates and Forms, theBudget Office, Information Technology Services and HumanResources.

Snyder, in a statement, says Flood is “a natural successor to[Clinton] to lead our team at DIFS.”

Clinton served as director of DIFS since it was created a yearago. Prior to that, he was commissioner of the state's Office ofFinancial and Insurance Regulation for two years.

Trade association the Property Casualty Insurers Association ofAmerica thanked Clinton for his leadership while looking forward toworking with Flood on the “critical issues facing consumers and the[P&C] industry in Michigan including no-fault auto reform,combating fraud and managing the many issues under review by theNational Association of Insurance Commissioners.

|

“It is also vital that Michigan join the rest of the nation inpassing confirming requirements of the federal Nonadmitted andReinsurance Reform Act to establish a level playing field forsurplus lines products,” continues Jeffrey Junkas, PCI regionalmanager, in a statement.

Last month PCI was appointed to Michigan Secretary of State RuthJohnson's auto insurance anti-fraud task force.
