Umland and Grieve discuss the insurance software market and thechallenges insurers face, especially related to the rise ofSoftware as a Service and cloud options, vendor and softwareselection and core systems modernization projects.

Umland joined Glatfelter Insurance Group in 1997 and as a memberof the senior management team he is responsible for all aspects ofinformation technology as they support the company's key businessinitiatives and strategies. Prior to joining Glatfelter, Umlandworked for Colonial Penn Insurance Group where he served on boththe business and the technology side, handling customerrelationships, market research, state insurance departmentrelationships, strategic planning and technology related to thedevelopment and enhancement of systems and processes. In aprevious role at Aetna Life Casualty, Umland worked in the grouppension area and facilitated the transfer of Canadian pensionbusiness from the US to a Canadian affiliate.

He holds a MBA from the University of Hartford and also attendedthe Wharton School's Effective Executive Program at the Universityof Pennsylvania. He is involved in several organizations, civicgroups and research councils and was a former industry advisor tothe committee of the Postmaster General.
