Brian Himmer, underwriting supervisor for amateur sports, golf & country clubs and boat dealerships for Philadelphia Insurance Cos., has taken a national approach to the growing discussion about identifying and dealing with concussion injuries in youth sports.

The company offers its sports clients an online program run by the Centers for Disease Control titled "Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports," a 30-minute online training course that helps coaches, parents and young athletes identify when a concussion has been suffered and what to do about it.

Carriers that work with insureds and potential insureds on concussion exposures provide them a more positive outlook that they retain when they're shopping for coverage—and they may be willing to pay a little more for that service, says Himmer.
