Insurance agency mergers and acquisitions hit an all-time highin 2012—with 291 total transactions in the U.S. andCanada—according to a recent study.
|The study analyzed reported transactions from various sources,and includes retail and wholesale agencies and brokerages, andMGAs/MGUs selling property & casualty, employee benefits andlife/financial services products.

|Interestingly, while the majority of the 291 acquisitions in2012 were made by privately owned agency groups, none of the top-10most-active buyers in the year were privately owned.
