Dwight Robertson has joined EMPLOYERS as itsnew medical director. He will provide strategic physician oversightfor the clinical direction of the company's medical services. Dr.Robertson holds an M.D. from the Duke University School ofMedicine. He has had experience working with carriers such asZenith National Insurance Co., Travelers and AIG.

Assurance promoted Liz Smithto president of employee benefits. Formerly executive vicepresident of employee benefits, Smith belongs to the Council ofInsurance Agents & Brokers, the Blue Cross Blue Shiled ProducerAdvisory Council, Humana Advisory Council and more. Prior tojoining Assurance she served as senior vice president, practiceleader of employee benefits for a national insurance brokerage.

Denise Granlun was named vice president forPMA Cos.' Philadelphia branch. She served as assistantvice president of the branch from 2006-2010 and was instrumental inthe execution of PMA's agency management and account managementinitiatives. Granlun has more than 20 years of industryexperience.

Ironshore International appointedSteven W. Komis president of Marine RE,Ironshore's specialist marine reinsurance intermediary. Komis hasheld executive underwriting positions with global reinsuranceentities including Axis Reinsurance Co., Gerling Global ReinsuranceCorp. and Reliance National throughout his 25 years of industryexperience.

Steve Penman was chosen to fill the role of COOat Sedgwick. He has more than 30 years ofexperience in a variety of leadership roles with Sedgwick afterjoining the company in 1978. He is credited with helping thecompany design and develop its JURIS system and grow its specialtyclaims operations, customer service centers, ancillary services andclinical and cost containment operations.

OSC hired John Dangoia to fillthe executive vice president and COO positions. Dangoia will guidethe company's senior management team and comes to OSC from CUNAMutual Group, where he held positions as lender product executiveand chief credit officer for commercial and consumer products.

Mark Nichols assumed new responsibilities asexecutive manager of Markel Specialties' new product developmentteam. He served most recently as managing executive of thecompany's accident & health business. Nichols is joined byDebbie Anglin, director of new productdevelopment. She came to Markel in 2012 as a result of thecompany's acquisition of Thompson Insurance Enterprises.

The Hanover Insurance Group enhanced itstechnology product suite, Hanover Technology Advantage, building onthe company's specialized product suite for small to mid-sized techcompanies with a focus on E&O offerings. Coverage highlightsinclude:

  • Claim made coverage
  • Enterprise-wide definition of covered services
  • Broad definition of anomaly
  • Website activity coverage and virus transmissionliability
  • Non-binding arbitration
  • Unlimited optional extended reporting period.

Stuckey & Co. introduced Mobile Rhino, aninsurance plan for mobile devices underwritten by Chartis/AIG. Itwas created in response to the growing need for a mobile insuranceproduct for the more than 400 million mobile devices now on themarket; in the U. S., only 27 percent of these devices arecurrently covered under a protection plan. The program also offersagents an opportunity to capitalize on schools and businesses thatlend out mobile devices to students and employees. Coverageincludes 6-point protection against loss, theft, mechanicalmalfunctions, electrical malfunctions and accidental damage.

ACE USA launched its Data Breach FundSidecar program to address the growing potential liability of databreaches due to hackers, lost electronics, dumpster divers andrelated exposures. The program will provide benefits for small andmid-size organizations and will include a single limit for all databreach expenses separate from the policy's liability limit, anoption that is currently unavailable anywhere else on themarket.
