The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) named the top 10 moststolen vehicles in the country in its annual Hot Wheels list. Thereport examines vehicle theft data submitted by law enforcement tothe National Crime Information Center and then determines thevehicle make, model and model year most reported stolen bothnationally and by state.

10. 1994 Nissan Sentra

|

The top 10 most stolen vehicles were evenly split betweenforeign brands and U.S. automakers. The 1994 Nissan Sentra takesthe number 10 spot and is the first foreign brand on the list.

9. 2002 Ford Explorer

|

The 2002 Ford Explorer is the first U.S.-made vehicle on thelist, coming in at number nine overall.

|

According to FBI crime statistics, vehicle thefts continue todecline in the U.S., with a 3.3 percent reduction in thefts in 2011compared to 2010.

8. 2004 Dodge Pickup (Full Size)

|

Older cars typically make up the majority of the list becausethey are easier to steal and their parts are more valuable.However, NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle reports there is a trendtoward increases in the thefts of late model vehicles, such as the2004 Dodge Pickup, even though they are theoretically harder tosteal due to key code technology.

“Today's vehicle thieves are typically professional criminalswho have figured out how to get the key code for a specificvehicle, have a replacement key made and steal the vehicle within amatter of days,” says Wehrle.

7. 1999 Chevrolet Pickup (Full Size)

Simple measures can be taken to prevent vehicle theft, such aslocking your car and taking your keys with you.

6. 1994 Acura Integra

|

A visible or audible warning device is another measure consumerscan take to help ensure their vehicles aren't stolen, as well as atracking device to signal the police or a monitoring system whenthe vehicle is stolen.

5. 2000 Dodge Caravan

|

Kill switches, fuel cut-offs and smart keys are amongimmobilizing devices that can also help prevent vehicle thefts.

4. 1991 Toyota Camry

|

The 1991 Toyota Camry moved down the list one spot from 2010,taking fourth place.

3. 2006 Ford Pickup (Full Size)

2006 Ford Pickups were the most stolen American vehicles in thecountry.

2. 1998 Honda Civic

|

This year's number two most stolen car is the same make andmodel as last year's—the Honda Civic—but rather than the 1995model, more of the 1998 models were stolen in 2011 compared to2010.

1. 1994 Honda Accord

|

The 1994 Honda Accord continues its streak as the number onemost stolen car in the country, having taken the same spot on2010's list. The top two positions on the list have consistentlybeen held by Honda vehicles since 2000.
