Three earthquakes struck Mexico yesterday and early today, butcaused little damage because of their remote location, says acatastrophe modeler.

The U.S. Geological Survey says two earthquakesstruck off the coast of Baja California in the Bay of Californiaearly today while a third struck in southern Mexico yesterday.

The two Baja California earthquakes struck near Santa Isabel,Calif.

|

The first earthquake, a magnitude 6.2 temblor, struck just aftermidnight yesterday about 35 miles north-northeast from Santa Isabeland 322 miles south fromPhoenix.

The second quake struck almost ten minutes later, magnitude 6.9,near the first one just off the east coast of theBajaCaliforniaPeninsulain the Bay of California.

The third quake, magnitude 6.5, struckSouthern Mexicoat 3:55p.m. local time. The epicenter was 248 miles west-southwest fromMexico City.

In a statement, catastrophe modeler RMS says while theBajaCaliforniaquakes were rated of very strong to strong intensity thatcould do significant damage, the sparsely populated areas nearestthe epicenter did not pose significant insurance exposure.
