James Wrynn, deputy superintendent of Financial Services in NewYork, and the state's former insurance superintendent before thebanking and insurance departments were merged, is leaving theDepartment of Financial Services to join law firm Goldberg SegallaLLP.

Wrynn will join the Buffalo, N.Y.-based firm's New York Cityoffice and will serve as senior partner with its Global InsuranceServices practices group.

DFS spokesman David Neustadt tells NU Online News Service thatthe department's Executive Deputy Superintendent Robert Easton "isand continues to be responsible for the Insurance Division of thedepartment. There is no change in that regard."

Benjamin M. Lawsky, Financial Services superintendent, says in astatement, "Jim was instrumental in ensuring the successful launchof the Department of Financial Services when the former insuranceand banking departments merged last year to create a singleregulator. Jim's insight and experience were extraordinarilyhelpful in ensuring a smooth, efficient transition and I amgrateful for all of his efforts."

In a separate statement, Richard J. Cohen, managing partner ofGoldberg Segalla, says, "The addition of Jim Wrynn to our teammarks a significant milestone in our firm's growth and areinforcement of our position as a premier law firm for the globalinsurance and reinsurance markets."
