Florida Insurance CommissionerKevin McCarty has been elected president of the National Association of InsuranceCommissioners (NAIC). McCarty has steadily moved up through theleadership ranks at NAIC, and in 2010 he and his office receivedthe 2010 Esprit de Corps Award for outstanding service to theNAIC.

McCarty began his career in public service in 1988 and becameFlorida's first appointed insurance commissioner in January 2003.As commissioner, he is responsible for Florida's insurance market,including oversight of company solvency, policy forms and rates,market investigations and new insurance business. He earned abachelor's degree in political science and a Juris Doctorate fromthe University of Florida.

Also elected to NAIC leadership posts were Louisiana InsuranceCommissioner James J. Donelon, president-elect; North DakotaInsurance Commissioner Adam Hamm, vice president; MontanaCommissioner of Securities and Insurance Monica J. Lindeen,secretary-treasurer.

Donelon was appointed Louisiana's insurance commissioner inFebruary 2006 and has been elected three times to the position. Aretired State Judge Advocate for the Louisiana Army National Guard,Donelon's career at the department of insurance includes serving aschief deputy commissioner and executive counsel. He is a graduateof the University of New Orleans and Loyola School of Law.

Hamm was appointed North Dakota's insurance commissioner inOctober 2007 and was elected to a four-year term in November 2008.He currently serves as chair of the NAIC life insurance andannuities committee and chair of the audit committee. Prior tobecoming commissioner, he served as a prosecutor for the CassCounty State's Attorney's office. Hamm is a graduate of Sam HoustonState University and received his Juris Doctorate degree withdistinction from the University of North Dakota School of Law.

Lindeen was elected commissioner of securities and insurance,Montana state auditor in November 2008. She is vice chair of theNAIC health insurance and managed care committee, chair of the NAICdesignation program advisory board, a member of the NAIC executivecommittee and audit committee, and serves on a number of taskforces related to implementing health insurance reform. Lindeenserved in the Montana House of Representatives from 1999-2006. Sheearned a bachelor's degree in English/History from Montana StateUniversity, Billings.

The officers will assume their duties on Jan. 1, 2012.
