The Flaspöhler Research Group Risk Manager Survey was initiatedin 2007 as a biennial study of U.S. Risk Managers' opinions ofcommercial carriers. This third Flaspöhler Study is undertaken inpartnership with NU.

The survey instrument consisted of 40 questions about insurerutilization, perceptions of insurers and related topics. Fifty-nineinsurers and 14 lines of business were evaluated.

Interviews were conducted over the web using dynamicadaptive-programming techniques. That is, respondents are onlyasked to rate companies with which they are familiar and only inregard to how those companies perform on factors the respondentconsiders to be important.

By eliminating the “noise” created by asking respondents toanswer every question or rate unfamiliar companies on unimportantfactors, this technique results in highly accurate and meaningfulinformation.

All interviews were completed in March 2011. The averageinterview length was 26.1 minutes.

This survey included interviews with 364 risk managers. Theoverall results of this study are accurate to within plus/minus 4percent at a 90 percent level of confidence.
