Charlie Sheen is back in the news, the latest that he may berejoining the cast of Two and a Half Men—meaning the showwould go back into production!

It seems only yesterday that I read he was suing his formeremployers, who in fact fired him from the show as a result of hisshenanigans—allegedly.

But hey, that's Hollywood. I know, because I once lived inL.A. and still have family there. “The Industry,” as theentertainment industry is commonly referred to, permeates thecity.

I bring up Mr. Sheen because after my article about him, askingif he is, indeed, insurable, I received several e-mails andeven a letter with an article about one of Sheen's lawsuits.

While the interest is clearly there from readers, there was somesurprise at reading about Sheen in the pages of NationalUnderwriter.

This I found surprising. After all, the insurance industrytouches pretty much everything, from micro-insurance in emergingeconomies, to life insurance, to coverage for huge properties topet insurance.

Actors, performers and sports heroes as well are no exception. In fact, they are prime for coverage. As public figures they arevulnerable to liability on many fronts. A cold or bout of the flucan mean cancelling a movie or concert worth millions. A pulledmuscle can take an athlete out of the game.

Brokers dealing with these situations must have specializedskills. They have to know how the industry works and the nuances ofcoverage and policy language, not to mention the most complicatedaspect—the personalities of the actors, musicians or sportsstars.

My point is that whether for environmental risks, public entityrisks or workers' comp, insurance is everywhere and in my view, thedetails can be fascinating.
