National Underwriter is seeking entries for its fifthannual “Award For Excellence In Workers' Compensation RiskManagement,” sponsored by the National Council on CompensationInsurance.

The NU award programwill spotlight three organizations for their outstanding approachto workers' comp risk mitigation.

Last year's winners were 2010 champion American Electric PowerCo., along with Nissan North America and Flextronics, which wonHonorable Mentions.

All three 2010 winners will share the secrets of their successduring the Risk and Insurance Management Society's annualconference—on Tuesday, May 3, 9:00-10:30 a.m. in Vancouver, in asession titled “Excellence in Workers' Compensation RiskManagement.”

Prior winners were 2009 Champion Starwood Hotels & ResortsWorldwide, along with Snap-on and INTEGRIS Health, which wonHonorable Mentions.

The NU award program is run in cooperation with theWorkers' Compensation Educational Conference (at which NUpresents a National Trends program) and the Florida Workers'Compensation Institute (which manages the annual WCEC event).

• The risk-management programs of all three winnerswill be individually profiled in the Aug. 22-29 edition ofNU.

• A representative from the risk-management departmentof each of the three winning firms will be flown to Orlando toattend the WCEC from Aug. 21-24, where they will receive theiraward during the Opening General Session.

• The winners will discuss their approaches at aspecial “NU Roundtable” at the WCEC on Aug. 23, withhighlights printed in our Oct. 17 edition.

Risk managers are invited to submit their own programs forconsideration by May 11.

Agents and brokers as well as insurers and third-partyadministrators are welcome to nominate candidates by April 7.However, a third-party nomination is not required for a riskmanager to enter. Nominations call NU's attention toworthy candidates, who will be approached and invited to enter.
