WASHINGTON–Rep. Judy Biggert, R-Ill., was named to head the House Financial Services Committee subcommittee that deals with insurance in the next Congress.

Rep. Biggert represents a suburban Chicago district and has been in Congress since 1999.

She was named by Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., upcoming chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, as chair of the Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity.

Insurance oversight was moved by the Republicans from the Capital Markets Subcommittee, where it had been previously housed.

Rep. Paul Kanjorski, D-Pa., headed that committee. He was defeated for re-election last month after the Republicans ousted 63 Democrats in the House. The Republican margin of control of the House is the greatest since the 1920s.

The subcommittee will deal with such other issues as mortgage finance to homeless assistance.

Rep. Bachus also named Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, as vice chairman of his committee.

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will head the Financial Institutions Subcommittee and Consumer Credit Subcommittee.

Rep. Scott Garrett, R-N.J., will head the Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises Subcommittee.

Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, will head the Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee.

Rep. Gary Miller, R-Calif., will head the International Monetary Policy Subcommittee.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, will head the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
