The European Commission (EC) has approved Aon Corporation'sproposed acquisition of Hewitt Associates, finding that thetransaction "would not significantly impede effective competitionin the European Economic area (EEA) or any substantial part ofit."

The EC said it investigated markets where global broker Aon andhuman resource consulting and outsourcing solutions firm Hewitthave overlapping activities, "in particular the areas of retirementbenefits consulting and investment consulting services to pensionfunds."

The EC determined that market shares of the combined firm "wouldbe modest post-transaction, and a sufficient number of crediblecompetitors would remain after the proposed transaction."
