U.S. auto thefts declined in 2009 for the sixth consecutiveyear, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB).

The NICB said it compiled the data from the National CrimeInformation Center.

|

Citing Federal Bureau of Investigation data, the NICB said autothefts dropped 18.7 percent in the first six months of 2009compared to the same period in 2008.

|

Laredo, Texas topped the NICB's 2009 list as the city with thehighest auto theft rate.

|

Laredo, which borders Mexico, ranked second behind Modesto,Calif. in 2008, according to the NICB.

For 2009, the NICB ranked Modesto second, followed byBakersfield, Calif.; Stockton, Calif.; and Fresno, Calif.

|

Fresno jumped five spots from tenth in 2008.
