In a recent OfficeTeam survey of senior executives at thenation's 1,000 largest companies, nearly half of the respondentssaid they have some degree or discomfort being friended by theemployees they manage or their bosses.

When asked how comfortable theywould feel about being “friended” on Facebook by the boss, officesubordinates, clients and vendors, 32 percent chose the strongestcategory out of five comfort levels and were “not comfortable atall” being friended by their boss; 33 percent were “not comfortableat all” being friended by people they manage, and the same numberfelt the same way about clients.

Thirty-eight percent were “not comfortable at all” beingfriended by vendors.

“The line between personal and professional has grownincreasingly blurred as more people use social networking Web sitesfor business purposes,” said Robert Hosking, executive director ofMenlo Park-based OfficeTeam. “Although not everyone is comfortableusing sites like Facebook to connect with professional contacts,it's wise to be prepared for these types of requests.”
