Miami-Dade County and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida haveentered into a public-private partnership designed to bringaffordable health coverage to the estimated 600,000 uninsured inMiami-Dade County. Called Miami-Dade Blue, the plan is beingoffered to individuals up to age 65 and to small employers with upto 50 workers. The preferred provider network includes 20 communityclinics and seven hospitals. Its out-of-pocket limit is $2,500 ayear. After a deductible of $250, the plan pays 90 percent ofin-network hospital costs and 100 percent of in-network lab tests.Generic drugs are available for a $10 co-payment. A similarproduct, Blue Select, is offered in Broward County, but withoutgovernment participation. That plan is aimed at smallcompanies.
