On June 1, the Illinois Dept. ofInsurance resumed its status as an independent department ofstate government, a position it held for more than a century priorto its consolidation with several other state agencies in 2004.
|This move results from Gov. Quinn's Executive Order 4, whichre-establishes the Illinois Dept. of Insurance (DOI) as aregulatory agency separate from the Illinois Dept. of Financial andProfessional Regulation. The Illinois House and Senate alsoapproved legislation re-establishing DOI as a separatedepartment.
