As Texas and Louisiana continue recovering from this month'shurricane disasters, several reinsurers and insurers are releasingexpected financial implications and claim counts from thestorms.

Reinsurer PartnerRe today announced that its early estimate ofclaims relating to its exposure to Hurricane Ike is currentlybetween $175-$210 million on a pre-tax basis, net of reinstatementpremiums.

In addition, the company revised down its estimate of claimsrelating to its exposure to Hurricane Gustav to $10-$20 million ona pre-tax basis, net of reinstatement premiums, from its originalestimate of $25-$45 million.

"The third quarter has been active in terms of Atlantichurricanes," said PartnerRe President & CEO Patrick Thiele, ina release. "We typically expect to incur larger catastrophe relatedclaims in the second half of the year, and as a result, PartnerReearns a proportionally higher level of catastrophe-exposed premiumsin the third quarter and second half of the year. This partiallymitigates the impact on results of third quarter and second-half,catastrophe-related losses."

Reinsurer Swiss Re also announced that, based on currentestimates, it expects its net claims for Hurricane Gustav to beapproximately $50 million, and for Hurricane Ike approximately $250million.

Meanwhile, a steady stream of insurer updates was released thisweek. State Farm, the largest insurer of homes and autos on theGulf Coast, reported that it has received 14,000 calls fromcustomers needing assistance from Hurricane Ike. It said that about1,100 agents, agents' staff, and claim employees living and workingin the impacted areas are already servicing thousands ofpolicyholders. But the company was careful to note that thesedemands would not affect the progress being made on the more-than50,000 claims it received from Hurricane Gustav.

Meadowbrook Insurance Group said that its claims from HurricaneGustav are primarily limited to Louisiana, and that it hasapproximately $1.4 million in known claims. The company said thatthe potential claims from Hurricane Ike are not as certain due tothe broad geographic area impacted by the storm and the fact thatpower and telephone services have not been fully restored to theseareas, but said that it has more than $1 million in knownclaims.

Unitrin, Inc. reported that Hurricane Ike claims are currentlyestimated to range from $35-$45 million. Unitrin also reaffirmedits previous announcement that its losses, net of the effects ofreinsurance, related to Hurricane Gustav are estimated to rangefrom $10-$15 million after tax.

Also racking up tens of thousands of claims was FarmersInsurance Group, which said that it has received more than 50,000Ike-related claims as of Sept. 23.
