Bermuda-based specialty insurer and reinsurer Max Capital GroupLtd. said it has appointed Kevin C. Werle as executive vicepresident and chief risk officer.

The company said he will take over some functions previouslyperformed by Executive Vice President and Chief Operating OfficerPeter Minton and by Jim Tees, executive vice president, finance andinvestments.

Mr. Werle most recently worked for New England Asset ManagementInc. (NEAM), a unit of Berkshire Hathaway's General ReinsuranceCorporation. At NEAM, Mr. Werle served as vice presidentresponsible for risk management, information technology andquantitative research.

Before joining the Berkshire Hathaway organization in 1998, Mr.Werle was managing director and chief operating officer of HartfordInvestment Management Company (HIMCO) and its affiliate, HartfordInvestor Services Inc. (HIS). He also served as vice president anddirector, investment systems, at Hartford Financial Services Group;as a senior manager, financial services, at Andersen Consulting;and as a systems analyst/programmer at CIGNA Investments.
