The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released Hot Wheels 2008, a companion study to its annual "Hot Spots" auto theft report. It examines data gathered by the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) to identify trends in the types of vehicles being reported stolen.

The NICB study indicates that one constant during the past few years, aside from thieves' penchant for foreign cars, has been their preference for older model vehicles. Thieves continue to target these vehicles because they provide the best market for stolen vehicle parts, according to the organization.
