Ascension Insurance Inc., a Kansas City-based brokerage, namedCalvin J. Stolle as its CFO and two other appointments.

Mr. Stolle was named executive vice president, chief financialofficer. He will direct all of Ascension's finances, accounting andstrategic acquisition support, the company said.

Previously, Mr. Stolle held senior financial managementpositions at Black & Veatch Corporation. He has 30 year's ofexecutive-level experience, holding senior finance positions atSeaboard Farms and KPMG.

The firm also announced it named John D. Doak as senior vicepresident, acquisitions. He will be charged with identifying“high-quality insurance agencies and employee benefits firms foracquisition,” Ascension said. Most recently, Mr. Doak served asresident managing director at Aon Risk Services and was responsiblefor Oklahoma agency management and business development. He alsoserved as an officer at Marsh and has 18 years of executive andoperations management experience.

Sydney Shaw was named senior president, controller, and willmanage the firm's financial and accounting functions, the companysaid. Most recently, he was CEO of S&S Financial Services, andAscension said that he has also held “high-level finance andaccounting management” positions at Hallmark Cards, Sprint,Motorola and Aventis Pharmaceuticals.

Ascension was founded in August 2007 to create an insurancebrokerage firm offering high-quality property and casualty, riskmanagement, and employee benefits products and services tomiddle-market companies. The company said it has $50 million inprivate equity funds with the aim to acquire “recognized regionalagencies with $7-to-$40 million in revenue.”
