The Coalition Against Insurance Fraud has released its annuallist of the year's most unforgettable fraud cases. The organizationcompiles the list after evaluating the most outrageous insurancefraud scams over the course of the year. Timothy Nicholls is now serving a life sentence in prison afterintentionally burning down his Colorado Springs home to collect theinsurance money while his three children were inside. Life wasbecoming more difficult for Timothy and Deborah Nicholls withsevere debt and drug addictions. According to the CAIF, the coupleowed the IRS about $12,000 and more than $200,000 to a drug-dealingmotorcycle gang for the expensive methamphetamine addiction.Deborah Nicholls is awaiting trial.

Married couple Ronald and Mary Evano went around Rhode Island,Massachusetts, and the District of Columbia scamming restaurantsand grocery stores by claiming they had swallowed pieces of glassand settling with insurance companies for massive payouts. TheEvanos maintained their scheme for eight years and were treated athospitals at least 12 times between 1997 and 2005. Ronald has beenordered to repay more than $340,000 and is serving five years inprison. Mary His wife, however, is still at large.

Christopher Michael Robertson and his life partner Paul Dayreturned from a trip to find their home in the Kings Manor MobileHome Park in Lakeland, Fla. destroyed by a fire. Slurs were foundspray painted on the couple's steps, leading many to believe theact was a hate crime. But when the incident started to drawunexpected publicity and community support, Robertson admitted tostarting the fire himself and spray painting the slurs on his own.He now faces 18 months in prison.
