Fireman's Fund Insurance Company announced today that MichaelLaRocco, a former president of Safeco, was named Fireman'spresident and chief executive officer.

Mr. LaRocco will start on March 17 at the Novato, Calif.-basedcompany and will report to Chuck Kavitsky, president and chiefexecutive officer of Allianz of America, parent of Fireman'sFund.

He will also serve on the International Executive Committee ofAllianz SE.

Mr. LaRocco, 51, with nearly 30 years of insurance industryexperience, last served as president and chief operating officer ofSeattle-based Safeco. He was appointed to the position in 2006 andleft later that year.

"Mike has superb credentials and is a proven leader in theproperty and casualty insurance industry," said Mr. Kavitsky. "Hisbackground and experience make him an ideal fit."

Prior to Safeco, LaRocco spent eight years at Geico Corporationin senior management roles, including regional vice president forthe Northeast region. His background also includes seven yearstenure at Superior Insurance, where he headed underwritingoperations and customer service. He began his insurance career atProgressive Corporation, working eight years in a variety ofmanagement roles.
