It is based in San Diego, Calif. AmWINS said it will combine London American with its existing transportation business, which has operated under the name Seaboard Underwriters, and market them as AmWINS Transportation Underwriters Inc.o Physician-owned liability insurer The Doctors Co. is expanding its market by acquiring SCPIE Holdings Inc., a provider of health-care liability insurance in California and Delaware.o Munich Re agreed to buy Midland Co., a U.S. insurer of manufactured housing and mobile homes. Midland, which sells specialty insurance through its wholly owned subsidiary American Modern Insurance Group, does business in all states. Munich Re, which does business in the U.S. as Munich Re America, also announced plans to increase its presence in the U.S. primary specialty insurance market.
