The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General Anne Milgram andCriminal Justice Director Gregory A. Paw have announced theindictment of a Monmouth County woman who falsified insuranceapplications and motor vehicle registrations.

Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Greta Gooden Brown reported thatMisty D. Megill of Farmingdale was charged in a state grand juryindictment with three counts of third-degree insurance fraud and 10counts of fourth-degree tampering with records.

Megill allegedly submitted 10 motor vehicle registrationapplications for vehicles that falsely indicated the vehicles wereinsured by valid New Jersey automobile insurance policies when, infact, they were not. Additionally, Megill supposedly applied forcar insurance with New Jersey Manufacturers and used a phony namefor the other driver at her residence, her boyfriend, who had asuspended license.

A release by the New Jersey Office of the Attorney Generalstates that third-degree crimes carry a maximum punishment of fiveyears in state prison and a criminal fine of $15,000, while crimesof the fourth-degree carry a maximum of 18 months in state prisonand a criminal fine of $10,000. Megill also may face civilinsurance fraud fines.
