The Marines aren't the only ones looking for a few good youngmen and women.

The Professional Insurance Agents of New Jersey Inc. and the NewJersey Young Insurance Professionals have launched Project Y, a Website aimed at raising the interest of undergraduates in pursuing acareer in the insurance industry.

According to the associations, the site (www.projectynj.org) isintended to position itself as a one-stop resource center forcollege undergraduates in New Jersey who are considering insuranceas their profession.

“There is a large gap in the insurance business between thenumber of agents retiring and the number entering the field, whichputs the future of the industry into question,” said Jack Lynn,president of PIANJ, in a statement.

Mr. Lynn added, “What students don't realize is that the needfor insurance is constant and always expanding, creating acontinuous need for educated professionals in the industry and agreat career opportunity.”

Project Y is another step in the Agency Staffing AssistanceProgram being developed by PIANJ and NJYIP. The program was createdto help PIANJ members recognize, recruit and train goodemployees.

Mr. Lynn, a partner at Dalton Insurance Agency, LLC, inGlassboro, N.J., told National Underwriter that the StaffingAssistance Program is a promotional tool that involves videopresentations, literature and personal outreach at schools andcolleges to engage students and raise their interest in theindustry.

The Project Y site will be utilized by agents who visit theschools and campuses to further students' interests in theindustry, he said.

The aim of the site is to draw attention to the many advantagesof a career in insurance. Using a combination of photos andinformational stories, the site informs visitors of the rewards acareer in the insurance industry can offer them.

The site, said Mr. Lynn, is in its initial stages but willeventually serve as a platform where students can post resumes andlook for positions in the industry. And potential employers will beable to view those resumes as they look to fill job openings.

When asked how long it will be before these features areavailable on the site, he said it would be very soon.
