If we accept a mature process by definition has been around long enough for most of the glitches to have been eliminated, then how mature is the practice of outsourcing in insurance?

On the technology front, while the outsourcing process probably hasn't hit full-fledged maturity, it has made headway (for more, see "Invisible Assets" and "Inside Track: Still Simmering"). Initially, the main point of going external and usually offshore was to save money, and it largely was viewed as a tactical solution. It also had a bad whiff about it, so much so that I remember when putting together a conference session on the topic a couple of years back, I couldn't find insurers willing to present.
