Thomas Sullivan, an insurance executive with a subsidiary of The Hartford, was appointed Connecticut insurance commissioner today.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell made the appointment to replace Susan Cogswell, who resigned after serving in the post for the past seven years.

Mr. Sullivan, 45, most recently served as senior vice president of Specialty Risk Services, LLC, a subsidiary of The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. The company is one of the major property-casualty third-party administration firms, with revenues last year of $252 million.
