Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner Kim Holland has demanded thatanonymous television campaign ads that attack her be pulled becausethey violate campaign laws.

The Democratic candidate requested the ads alleging corruptionand incompetence be taken off the air because no listing for themas a campaign contribution has been filed, but so far they arestill running.

A Texas-based group called Just the Facts America has spentnearly $100,000 for the ads that show Ms. Holland only insilhouette.

Viewers are directed to a Web site, OklahomaSecrets.com, thatnames the commissioner directly and accuses her of corruption and alack of qualification for the position.

Ms. Holland was appointed by Democratic Gov. Brad Henryfollowing the resignation of Democratic Insurance CommissionerCarroll Fisher in the wake of corruption charges.

Ms. Holland faces State Rep. Bill Case, R-Midwest City, on theGOP ticket. He has denied any connection with the ad and haspledged to run an issues-based campaign.

Mr. Case has said that Ms. Holland lacks qualifications for theposition, and he has promised to "erase the gray cloud hanging overthe office."

In a letter to supporters, Ms. Holland decried the ad as anout-of-state project run by people who reside in Texas and NewHampshire.

"Oklahomans deserve better than this. They deserve to know thatI have been cleaning up the insurance department, and that we'verecovered more than $25 million for Oklahomans through fraud andenforcement actions, and that we are holding the insurance industryfully accountable to their policyholders," she wrote.

Marilyn Hughes, executive director of the Oklahoma EthicsCommission, said the group behind the controversial ads has yet tofile any campaign contribution statement.

The group maintains that they are not required to since no nameis mentioned.

Ms. Hughes said that it was her personal opinion that thecandidate was identified clearly enough to have to file suchstatements.

But it will be up to the full board to make that determinationand it does not meet until after the election, she said.
