There was a time in the industry when independent agents were relatively content to wait for new technology–like consumers anticipating a bigger, better Game Boy or other techno-toy. Today, however, every independent agent knows that efficiency is the key to profitability, and the key to that profitability is a real-time workflow.
Although we've made great progress, the only way we're going to get where we want to go is to speak up, get involved, and make our wishes known to both our vendors and our carriers. Instead of just waiting, we have to drive the change–and we have to do it collectively.
The AMS Users' Group's Industry Affairs Committee was formed in 1997–originally to promote the concept of SEMCI (single-entry, multicompany interface) as the independent agent's vision of the perfect workflow model. At that time, we were focused on our own users and our specific agency management systems.
