Claims News Service, May 16, 2:01 p.m. EDT — InsureNet andinternational public safety information sharing network Nlets havecollaborated on a national automobile insurance verification statussystem soon available and free to every law-enforcement officer inthe U.S.

Through the internet-based automated system, officers willautomatically receive a vehicle's insurance status when they runits license plate, thus aiding in keeping uninsured vehicles offthe roads. InsureNet systems also are now positioned to provideinsurers the ability to automatically and confidentially helpcompile the nation's first national insurance database. JonathanMiller, InsureNet president, said that only the vehicles themselvesare used in the insurance status record, not names oraddresses.

“This new verification system will require less effort on thepart of insurers than what they do now and eliminates privacyconcerns. It will be a tremendous resource and benefit to lawenforcement, insurers, and drivers,” said Miller.
